19 Quality Control Resume Examples & Guide for 2026

Quality and lab managers read a QC resume for what you tested, the specifications you held parts and batches to, and the credentials behind your sign-off. Use these examples and the guide below to put figures on your inspections, holds and corrective actions, and to place ASQ, HACCP and PCQI credentials where a reader finds them.

Quality Control resume example

Quality control is the last check between a production line and a customer. Whether you inspect machined parts, test food samples or run assays in a QC lab, the person hiring you asks the same things: what you tested, against which specification, with which instruments, and what you caught before it shipped. Rejected lots, defect rates, customer complaints and clean audits answer those questions in figures, and every job on your resume has room for at least 1 of them.

How to Write a Quality Control Resume - Key Takeaways

  • Put your jobs in reverse-chronological order and fit them on 1 page; supervisors and managers with 10+ years can run to 2.
  • Open with 2 to 3 lines that name your years, the products or materials you test, your main instruments and 1 measured result.
  • Give your bullets quality figures: lots inspected, reject and complaint rates, holds, corrective actions closed and audit findings.
  • Name the standard behind your checks, such as ISO 9001, cGMP or a HACCP plan, and the exact software the posting lists.
  • List ASQ certifications and food safety course certificates under Certificates, each showing who issued it and when.
  • Leave out your birth date and other personal details, then see how hiring software reads it with an ATS resume checker before you send it.

What quality managers look for in a quality control resume

The BLS lists reading blueprints and specifications, measuring products with calipers, gauges or micrometers, accepting or rejecting finished items and reporting test data as typical duties. O*NET adds writing inspection reports and recommending corrective actions based on the results.

Those duties look alike on every QC resume, so name the product, material or sample type in each job; the section layout below keeps everything else where a screener expects it:

  • Name, headline with any ASQ credential (Quality Control Technician, CQT) and contact details
  • Summary of 2 or 3 lines under your name (no section title)
  • Work Experience, current job on top
  • Skills, with your gauges, lab instruments and software
  • Certificates
  • Education
  • Key Achievements (or, in its place, Volunteer Experience) and Languages, if space allows

Best format for a quality control resume

Choose the reverse-chronological resume format: your current job first, each entry carrying your title, the employer, the plant location and the months you started and left. QC careers climb in clear rungs, from inspector or lab technician to technician, analyst, supervisor and manager, and this order puts the highest rung at the top. A production operator or machinist moving into inspection can keep it too, since the hands-on measuring work already sits in their latest job.

The 3 resume formatsWhich format works best for a quality control resume?Use the reverse-chronological format unless one of the other two fits your situation better. Each card opens its full guide.

Fit it on 1 page if you have under 10 years in the field. A quality control manager or lab supervisor with a longer record, several plants or a supplier quality program can use 2 pages, with the 2 most recent jobs on page 1.

Quality Control resume format cheatsheet
SettingWhat to use
Length1 page; 2 only for supervisors and managers with 10+ years
DatesMonth and year (MM/YYYY); Present marks your current role
Job title lineTitle plus product or lab: Quality Control Technician, Injection Molding
StandardsNamed as the posting writes them: ISO 9001, AS9100, cGMP, SQF
Photo, age and ID numbersA photo is unusual in the US and Canada; leave off your age, family status and SSN
File typePDF; a .docx only when the plant's application system requires it

Most US and Canadian resumes carry no photo. A quality manager is reading for tolerances, standards and results, so give that space to the measurements instead.

Quality control resume summary vs. objective

If you have held a QC, inspection or lab testing job, write a resume summary that gives your years, what you test, your instruments and 1 result. If quality work is still ahead of you, write a resume objective instead: the role you want and the closest proof you have, such as in-process checks on a production line. Draft it once your bullets are done and lift its figure from your best bullet.

Quality control resume summary formula

Title with X years in products, materials or lab type, ASQ credential if held. Instruments, methods or software you run daily. Your clearest quality result and its figure.

Example

Quality control technician with 9 years in plastics and metal parts manufacturing, ASQ CQI and CQT. Measures to drawing with a CMM and height gauges and runs SPC in Minitab. Brought customer complaints at an injection molding plant from 23 to 6 a year.

Don't

Detail-oriented quality control professional committed to ensuring the highest product standards.

Do

QC chemist with 5 years in a contract pharmaceutical lab, running HPLC, GC and dissolution testing under cGMP. Released 1,100 batches of raw material and finished product in 2025, with 4 confirmed OOS results.

This version carries the lab type, the methods, the rule set and a volume a lab manager can weigh.

How to write quality control work experience bullets with numbers

Your current job takes 3 or 4 bullets and earlier jobs take 1 to 3, and every bullet starts on an action verb. Quality work is counted by design: lots, samples, rejects, holds, findings and days to close a corrective action. Use those counts to write achievements on your resume instead of restating the inspection plan.

Numbers that prove quality control work
AreaWhat to countExample bullet
Incoming inspectionLots checked, sampling plan, lots rejectedChecked 1,200 incoming component lots a year under ANSI/ASQ Z1.4 sampling and rejected 31.
In-process controlScrap rate, lines covered, months heldHeld scrap under 1.5% on 2 stamping lines for 18 months in a row.
Lab testingAssays a week, release time, OOS resultsRan 60 HPLC assays a week and shortened average batch release from 5 days to 3.
Food safetyCritical control points, checks a shift, audit resultsVerified 4 critical control points every shift, with 0 missed checks across 2 third-party audits.
Corrective actionCAPAs or 8Ds closed, days open, repeat issuesClosed 27 CAPAs in 2025 with an average of 21 days open.
AuditsAudit type, findings, follow-upPrepared the lab for an ISO 9001 surveillance audit that ended with 1 minor finding.

Here is a technician's entry built that way. The current job shows the scale of the checks, a result and the follow-up, and the earlier inspector job keeps 2 lines.

Quality control skills, gauges and software for your resume

From the job ad, take 6 to 8 hard skills for your resume that your bullets can back up. Blueprint reading and precision measurement fit almost every plant role; HPLC, wet chemistry and GMP documentation belong on lab resumes, and HACCP monitoring on food plant resumes.

Hard skills for quality control

  • Blueprint reading and GD&T
  • Calipers, micrometers and height gauges
  • CMM inspection
  • Statistical process control (SPC)
  • First article inspection
  • Root cause analysis and 8D
  • Gauge calibration
  • Nonconforming material control
  • HPLC and wet chemistry
  • HACCP monitoring

Soft skills quality managers value

  • Attention to detail
  • Clear inspection reports
  • Confidence to stop a line
  • Working with operators and suppliers
  • Consistency on repeat checks
  • Composure during audits

Put your software with your skills and prove each program inside at least 1 bullet. O*NET marks Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint as in-demand for inspectors and testers, and lists SAP software, Microsoft Access, AutoCAD and SolidWorks as hot technology. Statistics packages, LIMS and quality management systems vary by employer, so copy the product name from the posting when you have used it, and name the Excel work behind your reports, such as control charts or pivot tables.

ASQ, HACCP and PCQI: how to list quality control certifications

The BLS calls certification optional for quality control inspectors and says it may show a level of competence and professionalism. Where you hold one, put certifications on your resume in the Certificates section, naming ASQ or the course provider and the month and year. ASQ's CQI, CQT and CQE exams require paid quality work before you sit them, while food safety credentials come from a completed course.

Quality control certifications and what each one takes
CredentialIssued byWhat it takes
CQI (Certified Quality Inspector)ASQ3 years of full-time, paid work in the CQI body of knowledge (an associate's or bachelor's degree waives 2) and a 110-question exam.
CQT (Certified Quality Technician)ASQ4 years of full-time, paid work in the CQT body of knowledge (an associate's waives 2, a bachelor's 3) and a 110-question exam.
CQE (Certified Quality Engineer)ASQ8 years of work in the CQE body of knowledge, 3 of them in a decision-making position (a bachelor's waives 4), and a 175-question exam.
PCQI training (Preventive Controls for Human Food)FSPCAThe FSPCA course that FDA recognizes as the standardized curriculum, at least 22 contact hours, with a certificate from FSPCA.
HACCP training certificateThe course providerA completed HACCP course; write the provider and the date exactly as your certificate shows them.

Course certificates vs. ASQ certifications

A HACCP or PCQI certificate shows you finished training, and an ASQ credential shows you passed an exam after a set period of quality work. List both under Certificates, newest first, but put only the ASQ letters after your title in your headline. If you are preparing for an ASQ exam, say so in your summary, or list it under Certificates with its exam date once it is booked, never as a credential you already hold.

Sample Certificates section: ASQ inspector and technician

Certificates

  • Certified Quality Technician (CQT), ASQ, 09/2024
  • Certified Quality Inspector (CQI), ASQ, 11/2019

Education for quality control: diploma, associate's or chemistry degree

The BLS says entry-level inspection jobs typically call for a high school education, with on-the-job training lasting more than 1 month and up to 1 year. Lab roles set a higher bar: the BLS notes that chemists typically need at least a bachelor's in chemistry or a similar science, so a chemist or QC chemist with little experience should show that degree clearly.

Give each education entry on your resume the credential earned, the school, the town it sits in and your finishing month. An associate's in industrial technology, a chemistry or biology degree, or a quality technology certificate from a community college goes here; a GPA only if it is 3.5 or higher and you graduated in the last 2 years.

Sample education entry: associate's degree

Education

Associate of Applied Science in Industrial Technology05/2017
Ivy Tech Community College | Elkhart, IN

Entry-level and career-change quality control resumes

Without a quality job yet, use an entry-level resume with a short objective and every piece of measuring or testing work you have done. Give each one a count, the same as a full-time job would get.

  • In-process checks as an operator: how often you measured parts, with which gauges, and what you flagged.
  • Lab courses and research: instruments you ran and samples a week, listed under Education.
  • Internships or co-ops: the product, the inspections you did and any audit you helped prepare.
  • Training certificates: HACCP, PCQI or a blueprint reading course, under Certificates with the provider and date.

Don't

Hardworking individual seeking an entry-level quality control position to grow my skills.

Do

Production operator with 3 years on a CNC line, seeking a quality control inspector role. Measured every 20th part with calipers and micrometers and completed a blueprint reading course in 2026.

Even with no QC title yet, the gauges, check frequency and training carry this objective.

Coming from production, machining or a lab assistant job, stay with reverse-chronological order, and put the measuring, testing and documentation work first under each job. A career-change resume leaves the reasons for the move out; when you write a cover letter, explain there in 2 or 3 sentences why quality work is your next step.

Quality Control resume FAQ

Do I need a certification to work in quality control?

No. The BLS calls certification optional for quality control inspectors and says entry-level jobs usually need only high school plus on-the-job training. An ASQ credential such as the CQI or CQT can help once you have the years of experience ASQ requires, and a HACCP course certificate suits food plant roles.

Should I list CQI or CQT on my resume first?

List the newer credential first under Certificates, with ASQ as the issuer and the month and year. In your headline, use whichever the opening lists, or both if you hold both, such as Quality Control Technician, CQI, CQT.

How long should a quality control resume be?

1 page for most inspectors, technicians and lab analysts. Supervisors and managers with 10+ years, several sites or a supplier quality program can use 2 pages, as long as page 1 carries the 2 latest jobs and the certificates.

What software should I put on a quality control resume?

Put the programs the posting names that you have really used, written exactly as the posting writes them, such as Minitab, SAP or a LIMS. O*NET flags Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint as in-demand for inspectors and testers, so show what you built in Excel, like control charts.

How do I list HACCP or PCQI training on a resume?

Under Certificates, with the course name, the provider and the month and year, exactly as the certificate reads. For PCQI, write the FSPCA Preventive Controls for Human Food course. Mention it in a bullet too if you maintained or verified a food safety plan.

Can a production operator move into quality control?

Yes. Lead with the checks you already do as an operator, such as gauge readings, first-piece approvals and scrap logs, and add a blueprint reading or metrology course if you have one. Stay with the reverse-chronological layout and open with an objective aimed at the inspector role.

Should a QC chemist list lab instruments on a resume?

Yes. List the instruments and methods the posting names, such as HPLC, GC, FTIR or dissolution, in Skills, and use them again in bullets with a volume, such as assays a week or batches released. Add the rule set you worked under, such as cGMP.

Should I include salary expectations on a quality control resume?

No. Salary belongs in the online application or a later conversation, not on the page. As a reference point, the BLS puts the median pay of quality control inspectors at $48,570 a year as of May 2025; lab and supervisory roles, your industry and your state all move that figure.
