22 Videographer Resume Examples & Guide for 2026

Producers, marketing leads and clients read a videographer resume to see what you shoot, how fast you deliver and which cameras and editors you run. Use these examples and the guide below to put numbers on your shoots and edits, name your software and place a drone certificate where it gets seen.

Videographer resume example

Your reel shows what your footage looks like, and your resume explains the work behind it. Producers, marketing teams and clients care about the kinds of video you shoot, who you shoot for, which cameras and editing software you use and what your projects achieved. When the footage speaks for itself, the words around it tend to come out thin. Name the projects, the tools and the numbers, from views to turnaround times, and the resume backs up the reel.

How to Write a Videographer Resume - Key Takeaways

  • Use the reverse-chronological format on 1 page, moving to 2 only with 10+ years of staff and freelance work.
  • Open with a 2- to 3-line summary that names your years, the kind of video you shoot, your best result and your camera and editing systems.
  • Give each bullet a number a producer tracks: videos delivered, turnaround days, views or completion rate, crew size or budget.
  • List your editing software by its exact name, such as Adobe Premiere, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro, and prove each one in a bullet.
  • Put an FAA Remote Pilot Certificate first under Certificates if you fly drones for paid work, with the month and year it was issued.
  • Send your reel link with the application and cover letter, then run the resume through an ATS resume checker before you apply.

What hiring managers look for in a videographer resume

Whoever hires you, a producer, a marketing manager or a couple planning a wedding, reads your resume to see whether you can deliver their kind of project. The BLS lists shooting and recording programs, events and documentaries, organizing footage with video-editing software and selecting the right lens or lighting as core duties. O*NET adds composing and framing each shot and editing video, including non-linear editing.

Your reel shows the quality of the footage. The resume has a different job: it tells the reader the scale, the client and the deadline behind each project. Build it from these sections:

  • Name, a headline such as Videographer, Brand and Event Content, plus your email, phone and city
  • A 2- to 3-line opening summary that needs no heading
  • Work Experience, current role first, with freelance work as its own entry
  • Skills, with your cameras and editing software listed among them
  • Certificates, led by your FAA Remote Pilot Certificate if you fly drones
  • Education
  • If they help: Languages, Interests, and one of Volunteer Experience and Key Achievements

Best format for a videographer resume

Use the reverse-chronological resume format, with your current or latest role first and each entry carrying the title, the employer or client, its city, and start and end dates as MM/YYYY. Videography careers grow in steps a reader can follow: production assistant or second shooter, videographer, senior or lead shooter, then producer or director of photography. Reverse-chronological order shows that climb, and it suits freelancers too, since your freelance business can be its own dated entry.

The 3 resume formatsWhich format works best for a videographer resume?Use the reverse-chronological format unless one of the other two fits your situation better. Each card opens its full guide.

Fit your resume on 1 page if you have under 10 years of experience. A 2-page version works for a video production manager or a senior shooter with broadcast, agency and freelance work to show, provided page 1 holds your 2 latest roles and your Part 107 status.

Videographer resume format cheatsheet
SettingWhat to use
Length1 page; 2 pages only after 10+ years of shoots
DatesStart and end as MM/YYYY; Present for your current role
Job title lineTitle plus specialty: Videographer, Events and Live Streaming
Reel or portfolio linkIn the application form and your cover letter, with the same projects named in your bullets
LayoutOne column or two, standard section names, no text inside images
Headshot and personal dataLeave off a headshot (rare in the US and Canada), your date of birth, your marital status and your SSN
File typePDF, unless the posting or the client asks for a Word file

Most US and Canadian resumes carry no photo, and a videographer's eye is judged by the reel. Spend the space a headshot would take on a stronger bullet.

Videographer resume summary vs. objective

Write a summary if you have been paid to shoot video, by an employer or by clients: name your years, the kind of video you make, your best result and your systems. If you have no paid video work yet, write an objective: the role you want, plus the strongest proof you have from school, a campus station or your own projects. Novoresume's resume summary examples show how short these lines can be. Write it after your bullets and reuse their best number.

Videographer resume summary formula

Title with X years shooting type of video for clients or audience. Your strongest result: views, subscribers, turnaround or repeat clients, with a number. Camera, editing software and FAA Part 107 status.

Example

Videographer with 8 years shooting brand, event and hospitality video for New Orleans businesses. Grew a hotel group's YouTube channel from 2,300 to 18,000 subscribers in 14 months. Shoots on a Sony FX6, edits in Adobe Premiere and DaVinci Resolve, and holds an FAA Remote Pilot Certificate.

Don't

Creative and passionate videographer with a keen eye for detail and a love of visual storytelling.

Do

News videographer with 4 years at 2 regional TV stations, shooting and editing 200+ packages on a 90-minute deadline. Runs live shots solo and edits in Adobe Premiere.

The rewrite swaps adjectives for a setting, a volume, a deadline and a system.

How to write videographer work experience bullets with numbers

Give your current role 3 to 4 bullets and older roles 2 to 4, each starting with a verb and ending with a result. Video work produces plenty of numbers: videos delivered, days from shoot to final cut, views and completion rates, crew size, budget and clients who came back. Write achievements on your resume that carry those numbers, rather than a list of shoot types.

Numbers that prove videography work
AreaWhat to countExample bullet
OutputVideos per month, formats, client countDelivered 15 product videos a month in 3 aspect ratios for an online furniture store.
TurnaroundDays or hours from shoot to deliveryTurned conference keynotes into captioned highlight edits within 48 hours.
Audience resultsViews, watch time, completion rate, subscribersRaised average completion on vertical recipe videos to 68% by moving the payoff into the first 3 seconds.
Crew and budgetCrew size, budget, shoot daysDirected a 3-person crew on a $40K manufacturing documentary delivered on schedule.
ClientsRetained clients, renewals, referralsKept 9 of 11 annual clients through renewal by sending monthly shoot calendars.
Live and technicalCameras switched, streams run, footage managedRan a 5-camera gala stream for 1,200 remote viewers and archived 2 TB of footage a week with a 3-copy backup.

Here is how that looks in one videographer's entry. The current role gets 4 bullets with the client, the volume and the result; the older role gets 2.

Do

Ran a 3-camera switched live stream on a Blackmagic ATEM for 30 city council meetings, with 0 dropped broadcasts.

How to list freelance clients

According to the BLS, 35% of camera operators are self-employed, so many videographer resumes mix staff jobs with client work. Give your freelance business one Work Experience entry, titled Freelance Videographer or with your business name, dated from your first paid shoot. Under it, name client types rather than a long list of names, and count the work: shoots a year, repeat clients and your biggest project. The freelance videographer page goes further for a resume built mostly on client work.

Videography skills and editing software for your resume

Choose 6 to 8 hard skills for your resume that match the posting and that your bullets back up. Camera work, lighting, audio and editing belong on almost every videographer resume; color grading, motion graphics, drone work or live streaming only where you have done them for paid projects.

Hard skills for videographers

  • Cinema and mirrorless camera operation
  • Shot composition and framing
  • Lighting setups on location
  • Audio capture with lavalier and shotgun mics
  • Non-linear video editing
  • Color correction and grading
  • Motion graphics and titles
  • Aerial drone cinematography
  • Multi-camera live streaming
  • Footage management and backup

Soft skills producers and clients value

  • Directing on-camera talent
  • Clear client communication
  • Meeting delivery deadlines
  • Visual storytelling
  • Problem solving on location
  • Working within small crews

Name your software inside Skills, then show each one at work in a bullet about what you made with it. O*NET flags Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects and Apple Final Cut Pro as in-demand technology for camera operators, and Adobe now calls its editor simply Adobe Premiere, so write the name the job ad uses. Add DaVinci Resolve, Photoshop or a switcher such as a Blackmagic ATEM where you have used them. Name cameras by system, such as Sony FX6 or Canon EOS C70, only when the posting does or the camera shaped the work.

FAA Part 107 and software certifications on a videographer resume

No license is required to shoot video, so list certifications on your resume only where they change what you can be hired for. The big one is drone work: the FAA says that to fly a drone under its Small UAS Rule (Part 107), you must obtain a Remote Pilot Certificate, so any paid aerial shot needs one. The BLS notes that software certification is generally offered by the software vendors, and Adobe and Blackmagic Design both run exams for their video tools.

Videographer certifications and what each one takes
CredentialIssued byWhat it takes
Remote Pilot Certificate (Part 107)Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)Be 16 or older, read, speak, write and understand English, pass the Unmanned Aircraft General, Small (UAG) knowledge test at an FAA-approved testing center, and clear a TSA background check. Complete free online recurrent training every 24 calendar months.
Adobe Certified ProfessionalAdobe, with exams delivered by CertiportPass the exam for one app, such as Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects or Adobe Photoshop. Each certification is valid for 3 years, and holding 2 can earn a specialty certificate in Visual, Web or Video Design.
DaVinci Resolve certificationBlackmagic DesignWork through an official DaVinci Resolve training book, such as the editor's or colorist's guide, and pass the online exam that goes with it.

How to list a Part 107 certificate

Write the full name, FAA Remote Pilot Certificate (Part 107), with the month and year it was issued, and put it first under Certificates. The FAA requires recurrent training every 24 calendar months, so keep yours current before you take paid aerial work. Leave the certificate number off; a client can ask for it before the shoot.

Sample Certificates section: drone pilot with Adobe certifications

Certificates

  • FAA Remote Pilot Certificate (Part 107), FAA, 03/2020
  • Adobe Certified Professional: Adobe Premiere, Adobe, 06/2026
  • Adobe Certified Professional: Adobe After Effects, Adobe, 01/2026

How to list a film, broadcasting or communications degree

Camera operators typically need a bachelor's degree, according to the BLS, often in film, broadcasting, or a related fine and performing arts or communications field. Follow the usual rules for listing education on a resume: the degree name, the school, its city and the month you graduated. A recent graduate can add a thesis film or a capstone with its length and crew size; after 2 or 3 years of paid shoots, the entry shrinks to the degree line.

Write the degree as the school names it, such as B.F.A. in Film and Television or B.A. in Broadcast Journalism. A certificate program from a community college or a continuing education school also goes under Education, which helps if you came to video without a degree.

Sample education entry: film school graduate

Education

B.F.A. in Film and Television05/2018
Savannah College of Art and Design | Savannah, GA

Thesis: a 14-minute documentary shot and edited with a 4-person crew.

Entry-level and career-change videographer resumes

With no paid video job yet, use an entry-level resume layout: a short objective, Education placed high on the page, then the projects that show you can shoot, edit and deliver. The BLS notes that videographers in particular put their creative work online, so treat your own channel or site like a job and give it numbers.

  • Campus TV, athletics or events: games, ceremonies or broadcasts you shot, and how many people watched.
  • Internships at a station, agency or production company: shoots you crewed and edits you delivered.
  • Your own channel or client gigs: videos published, subscribers gained and repeat customers.
  • Volunteer shoots for a nonprofit or church: listed under Volunteer Experience with the count and the use, such as a fundraising video.

Don't

Recent graduate looking for an opportunity to grow as a videographer.

Do

Film graduate seeking a junior videographer role. Shot 22 campus events for the student TV station and directed 3 short documentaries, 1 of which won a regional student award.

Even an objective needs proof: event counts, finished films and recognition.

Coming from photography, marketing, retail electronics or event work, keep reverse-chronological order and put your new credential and first paid shoots at the top: a certificate program, your Part 107 certificate and the gigs you have delivered so far. Earlier jobs stay, with bullets that show transferable skills such as client service, equipment know-how or deadlines, each with its number. The career-change resume page shows that structure, and why you changed fields fits in 2 or 3 sentences of your cover letter, following the steps in how to write a cover letter.

Videographer resume FAQ

Where should I put the link to my videographer reel?

Send it with every application rather than on the resume page. Paste the link into the application form's website field and into the first paragraph of your cover letter, keep it short and public, and make sure the reel opens on the projects your resume describes first.

Do I need a Part 107 certificate to list drone work on my resume?

Yes, for any paid drone shoot. The FAA requires a Remote Pilot Certificate to fly under Part 107. List it first under Certificates with its issue date, and only describe aerial work you flew as a certified pilot.

How long should a videographer resume be?

One page for most videographers. Move to 2 pages only with 10+ years of staff, agency and freelance work, and keep your 2 latest roles and your certificates on page 1, since many readers stop there and open your reel.

Do you need a degree to be a videographer?

Not always. The BLS says a bachelor's degree in film, broadcasting or a related arts or communications field is typical. Without one, a certificate program, a strong reel and counted client work carry your Education and Work Experience sections.

What editing software should a videographer list?

List the editors the posting names that you can work in on day 1, by their exact names: Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro or DaVinci Resolve, plus After Effects for motion graphics. Back each one with a bullet that shows a finished project made in it.

How do I list freelance videography work on a resume?

Give it one Work Experience entry, titled Freelance Videographer or with your business name, and date it from your first paid shoot. Then count the work: shoots a year, client types, repeat clients and your largest project, instead of listing every client by name.

Can I use a creative template for a videographer resume?

Yes, as long as the text still parses cleanly in ATS software. Keep standard section names, real text instead of icons or images, and one accent color. Your style belongs in the reel, so a clean layout rarely costs you anything.

Should I list my camera gear on my resume?

Only the systems a client or employer cares about. Name cameras, switchers or drones you have shot paid work on when a listing calls for them, and mention owned gear in the summary if you freelance, since a client hiring a full kit wants to know.

Should I include salary expectations on a videographer resume?

No. Keep pay and day rates for the application form, the client quote or the interview. For context, camera operators in television, video and film earned a median of $74,990 a year in May 2025, according to the BLS.
