11 Real Estate Broker Resume Examples & Guide for 2026

Sponsoring brokers, team leads and commercial firms read a broker resume for closed volume, the license you hold and the markets you know. Use these examples and the guide below to count your listings and closings, write the license line correctly and show the agents you have supervised.

Real Estate Broker resume example

A broker license carries more responsibility than a sales license: your own deals, sometimes other agents' files, sometimes an office. Before a firm hands you clients or agents, it checks your closed volume, how many deals you handled, the markets and property types you know and, for management roles, the agents you have led. Big claims carry little weight in this business, because every figure can be checked. Plain numbers for your listings, buyers, leases and supervision do.

How to Write a Real Estate Broker Resume - Key Takeaways

  • Put your newest brokerage first in a reverse-chronological layout, kept to 1 page, or 2 if you manage agents or have 10+ years of production.
  • Write the license type exactly as your state issued it in your headline, then list it first under Certificates with the agency and the year.
  • Give every bullet a production number: closed volume, transactions or sides, list-to-sale ratio, days on market or square feet leased.
  • Open with a 2- to 3-line summary that names your market, your property type, your best recent year and any designation.
  • Use REALTOR only if you are a member of the National Association of REALTORS, and spell out a designation such as ABR (Accredited Buyer's Representative) beside its initials.
  • Keep commission splits and personal details off the page, then test the file with an ATS resume checker before you send it.

What firms look for in a real estate broker resume

The BLS draws the line between the two licenses plainly: brokers are licensed to manage their own real estate businesses, while sales agents must work with a broker. O*NET lists the core broker tasks as winning listing agreements from owners, pricing a property against similar recent sales, acting as the intermediary in negotiations through closing, and monitoring contract terms so deadlines are met. A sponsoring broker or a team lead reads your resume to see how much of that you have done, in which market, and with what result.

A commercial firm adds deal size and property type; a brokerage hiring a managing broker adds the agents you have supervised and the files you have reviewed. Build the page from these sections:

  • Name, a headline with your license type (for example, Real Estate Broker, ABR) and contact details
  • A short summary at the top: 2 or 3 lines, no heading above it
  • Work Experience, current brokerage first
  • Skills, with the CRM, MLS and transaction software you use
  • Certificates, with your license listed first
  • Education, including any required broker courses
  • If space allows: Key Achievements, Languages or Volunteer Experience

Best format for a real estate broker resume

Pick the reverse-chronological resume format and list your current brokerage first, each entry with your title, the firm, its city and the months you started and left, in MM/YYYY. Most brokers reach the license after years as a salesperson, and this order shows that move along with the production behind it. A combination layout, with skills above your history, fits only when you are coming into real estate from another career.

The 3 resume formatsWhich format works best for a real estate broker resume?Use the reverse-chronological format unless one of the other two fits your situation better. Each card opens its full guide.

Keep a producing broker's resume to 1 page. Go to 2 pages when you run an office, supervise agents or have 10+ years of closings across several markets, and make sure page 1 still holds your current role and your strongest year.

Real Estate Broker resume format cheatsheet
SettingWhat to use
Length1 page for a producing broker; 2 for managing brokers or 10+ years in the business
Job title lineYour title plus your focus: Real Estate Broker, Residential Resale or Commercial Real Estate Broker, Industrial
License lineLicense type, issuing agency and year, listed first under Certificates
DatesMM/YYYY for every job, and Present for the brokerage you are with now
Photo and private detailsA photo is unusual in the US and Canada; keep your age, family status, Social Security number and commission splits off the page
File typePDF, unless the firm's application form asks for a Word document

Most US and Canadian resumes carry no photo. Your headshot already works hard on your website, your listing flyers and your yard signs; on the resume, the space it takes is better spent on a line of production numbers.

Real estate broker resume summary vs. objective

If you have closed deals under your own license, write a resume summary: your license, your market and property type, a recent production figure and any designation. If you are newly licensed with no closings yet, a resume objective works better, naming the role you want and the closest proof you have. Write it after your bullets, so its number matches one of them.

Real estate broker resume summary formula

License type with X years in market and property type. A recent production figure: volume, transactions or sides. Designation, specialty or team you lead.

Example

Licensed California real estate broker with 8 years in Fresno County resale homes. Averaged 38 closed transactions a year since 2022. ABR designee leading a 5-agent buyer team.

Don't

Results-oriented real estate professional passionate about helping clients reach their real estate goals.

Do

Residential broker with 5 years in suburban resale and new construction. Closed 28 sides worth $9.1M last year, with a median 19 days on market. Licensed in 2 neighboring states.

The rewrite gives a reader the property type, the production and the reach of the license.

How to write real estate broker work experience bullets with numbers

Write 3 to 4 bullets under your current brokerage and 1 to 3 under older ones, each starting with a verb. Real estate production is already counted in your MLS and your transaction files, so pull last year's figures from there rather than estimating. Put achievements on your resume ahead of duties: every agent shows homes, but not every agent sells listings at 99% of asking.

Numbers that prove real estate broker work
AreaWhat to countExample bullet
Sales volumeClosed dollar volume, transactions or sides, average sale priceClosed $22.7M across 53 sides in 2025, with an average sale price of $428K.
ListingsListings taken, sold before expiration, list-to-sale price ratioTook 30 listings in 2025 and sold 27 before expiration at 99.1% of list price.
Buyer workBuyers closed, offers written, multiple-offer winsWon 9 of 14 multiple-offer situations for buyers with escalation clauses and short close dates.
Commercial leasingSquare feet leased, deals, occupancyLeased 84,000 sq ft of flex industrial space in 11 deals, lifting occupancy from 81% to 96%.
Brokerage managementAgents recruited and supervised, files reviewed, audit resultsRecruited 12 agents in 18 months and reviewed 400+ transaction files a year for compliance.
Lead generationLeads, conversion rate, referral shareConverted 7% of 1,150 online leads to closings, logging every contact in Salesforce.

Below is how a broker who moved up from salesperson might write the two jobs. The current role carries production, pricing, negotiation and team results; the earlier one keeps 2 bullets that show the base the license was built on.

Sample entry: residential broker who leads a buyer team

Don't

Assisted buyers throughout the home buying process.

Do

Guided 22 buyers from preapproval to closing in 2024, 15 of them first-time buyers using FHA or VA loans.

A count of buyers and their loan types shows a team lead exactly which clients you can serve.

Don't

Responsible for managing agents in the office.

Do

Supervised 18 agents across a 2-office brokerage, reviewing every contract before it went out and cutting file errors found at audit from 14 to 3.

Real estate broker skills and software for your resume

Pick 6 to 8 hard skills for your resume that appear in the posting and that a closing or a lease on your page can back up. Pricing and negotiation belong on nearly every broker resume; leasing, investment analysis or agent supervision only where your work history shows them.

Hard skills for real estate brokers

  • Comparative market analysis (CMA)
  • Listing presentations
  • Contract negotiation
  • Purchase agreements and disclosures
  • Transaction and escrow management
  • Fair housing compliance
  • Buyer representation
  • Commercial leasing
  • Investment property analysis
  • Agent recruiting and supervision

Soft skills managing brokers value

  • Calm negotiation under pressure
  • Follow-through on deadlines
  • Clear client communication
  • Self-motivation
  • Discretion with client finances
  • Coaching newer agents

List your software inside Skills, then repeat each name inside a bullet that shows what you did with it. O*NET flags Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Office as in-demand technology for real estate brokers, and lists Salesforce, Yardi and Intuit QuickBooks among its hot technologies. Name your MLS, your CRM and your transaction platform, such as Follow Up Boss, Dotloop or SkySlope, exactly as the posting writes them, and only the ones you could work in on day 1.

Broker license, managing broker and designations on a resume

List certifications on your resume under Certificates, with the license first, then designations, each with its issuer and year. Most states, the BLS says, require at least 2 years as a licensed sales agent before a broker license, along with state-accredited prelicensing courses and an exam, and most require continuing education to renew. The details differ by state, as the table shows.

Broker licenses and designations and what each one takes
CredentialIssued byWhat it takes
Real Estate Broker License (California example)California Department of Real Estate2 years of full-time licensed salesperson experience in the last 5 (or a 4-year degree with a real estate major or minor), 8 required college-level courses and a written exam.
Managing Broker License (Illinois example)Illinois Department of Financial and Professional RegulationAn active Illinois broker license for 2 of the last 3 years, 165 hours of approved courses (45 with an active Illinois broker license, per IDFPR's application instructions) and an exam.
ABR (Accredited Buyer's Representative)National Association of REALTORSNAR membership in good standing, the ABR course plus 1 elective, and 5 transactions working solely as a buyer's representative, with no dual agency.
CCIM designationCCIM InstituteThe designation courses, an approved portfolio (3+ qualifying activities totaling $30M+, exactly 10 totaling $10M+, or 20 of any size) and a comprehensive exam.

How to write the broker license line

Titles such as broker associate, associate broker, managing broker and designated broker mean different things from state to state. Name the agency as it was called when it issued the license: California's licensing body operated as the Bureau of Real Estate until it returned to department status on July 1, 2018. Add REALTOR to the headline only while your NAR membership is current: NAR treats the word as a membership mark, not a job title.

Sample Certificates section: broker license and designation

Certificates

  • Real Estate Broker License, California Department of Real Estate, 03/2022
  • Accredited Buyer's Representative (ABR), National Association of REALTORS, 06/2023

How to list education and broker courses on a real estate resume

The BLS gives high school or its equivalent as the typical entry education and says real estate degrees and certificates typically are not required, so a degree is a plus rather than the gate. Follow the standard rules for listing education on a resume: the degree, the school and its city, and the graduation month, kept short below Work Experience.

Broker courses earn a line when your state requires them. California, for example, asks for 8 college-level courses, among them Real Estate Practice, Legal Aspects of Real Estate, Real Estate Finance and Real Estate Appraisal. Add 1 line under your degree that says you completed them and when, rather than listing every course.

Sample education entry: degree plus broker courses

Education

B.A. in Economics05/2017
University of California, Davis | Davis, CA

Completed the 8 college-level courses required for the California broker license in 2021.

New broker and career-change real estate broker resumes

A broker license usually comes after years of selling, so a new broker is most often a salesperson moving up: keep your salesperson years as their own entry and lead the new one with your first results under the broker license. Coming from another career, start where most brokers start, with a salesperson license, and show the work that already looks like real estate. Give each item a number, as you would a closing.

  • Sales or account work: quotas met, deals negotiated, contracts managed.
  • Leasing, property management, lending, title or escrow: units leased, loans or files closed, deadlines tracked.
  • Community and nonprofit roles: the families, donors or partners you worked with, a network that becomes your first clients, listed under Volunteer Experience where it was unpaid.
  • First deals as a licensed salesperson: showings, offers written and closings, even if there are only a few.

Don't

Newly licensed real estate professional seeking an opportunity to grow with a top brokerage.

Do

Licensed salesperson since 06/2026 with 5 years as a mortgage loan processor, seeking a buyer's agent role on a residential team. Took about 30 purchase loans a month from application to clear-to-close.

Even with no closings yet, the license date, the nearest experience and a count give the reader proof.

A career-change resume reads best when the first 3 bullets under your current or latest job are the ones closest to selling property: negotiating, managing a pipeline or serving the same households a broker would. Explain why you switched in the letter you send with it, and use sales cover letter examples to keep that story to 2 or 3 sentences tied to a result.

Real Estate Broker resume FAQ

When can I put Broker in my resume headline?

Only once your state has issued the broker license. Until then, keep your salesperson title in the headline and list finished broker courses under Education and a scheduled broker exam under Certificates. A firm will check the license type by name, so the headline has to match what the state shows.

How is a real estate broker resume different from an agent resume?

A broker resume shows what the higher license lets you do. In the BLS description, brokers can manage their own real estate businesses while sales agents must work with a broker, so add the agents you supervised, files you reviewed or the office you run, on top of your own production.

Should a managing broker resume still show personal sales?

Yes, briefly. Give your own closings 1 bullet and spend the rest on the office: agents recruited and supervised, contracts reviewed, compliance results and the office's total production. A brokerage hiring a manager wants proof you can run agents, not only sell.

How do I show residential and commercial experience on one resume?

Name the property type in each job title line, such as Commercial Real Estate Broker, Industrial. Then use the unit each side of the business counts in: transactions and sale prices for homes, square feet, lease value and occupancy for commercial deals.

Should I list GCI or commission income on a broker resume?

Yes, as a production figure, if you are comfortable sharing it. Label it gross commission income (GCI) with its year, and put it beside closed volume and transaction count. Leave out your commission split and your take-home pay.

How long should a real estate broker resume be?

Use 1 page if you mainly sell. A 2-page resume fits a managing or designated broker, or anyone with 10+ years across several markets, as long as page 1 shows the current role and the best recent year of production.

How much do real estate brokers make?

The BLS puts the median annual pay of real estate brokers at $73,220 for May 2025. Pay swings widely with commissions and market, and your resume should show production figures such as closed volume, never a salary request.
