12 Full-Stack Developer Resume Examples & Guide for 2026

Engineering managers hiring a full-stack developer check which front end, back end and database you have shipped in, and whether your features held up in production. Use these examples and the guide below to name your stack layer by layer, put a number on each feature, and list cloud certifications correctly.

Full-Stack Developer resume example

A full-stack developer builds a feature from the screen a user clicks down to the table that stores the result. Employers filling the role check that you cover every layer: a front-end framework, a back-end language, a database and somewhere to deploy, plus signs your code held up once real people used it. A list of 25 tools takes a minute to write and proves almost nothing. Each tool earns its place once a bullet shows what you built with it and what changed: pages that load faster, queries that return in milliseconds, releases that stopped breaking.

How to Write a Full-Stack Developer Resume - Key Takeaways

  • Put your newest job first and fit it all on 1 page; move to 2 only as a senior or lead developer with 10+ years.
  • Open with 2 to 3 lines that name your front end, back end and database, then 1 shipped feature with its number.
  • In every bullet about a shared feature, say which layer you built: the UI, the API, the schema or the pipeline.
  • Put a figure on each layer: load time, p95 latency, query time, test coverage, release frequency or monthly cloud spend.
  • Keep 6 to 8 skills plus the 4 to 6 tools your bullets prove, spelled the way the job ad spells them, such as Node.js, PostgreSQL or Angular.
  • Add your GitHub or portfolio URL to the header, then check the file in an ATS resume checker before you apply.

What engineering managers look for in a full-stack developer resume

The BLS describes software developers as people who analyze users' needs, design each piece of an application and plan how the pieces work together, then keep the program running through maintenance and testing. For web work it splits the job in 2: back-end developers handle the site's technical construction, and front-end developers build the features users see. A full-stack hire is expected to do both, so the person screening you looks for proof on each side of that line.

Build the page from these sections, with headings that ATS software reads without guessing:

  • Name, title (such as Full-Stack Developer), city, email, phone and a GitHub or portfolio URL
  • Your stack and best result in 2 or 3 lines just below the header, printed without a heading
  • Work Experience, with your current job on top
  • Skills, covering languages, frameworks, databases and cloud tools
  • Certificates, for AWS, Azure or Google Cloud credentials
  • Education, including a bootcamp if that is how you trained
  • Optional: Languages, plus 1 of Key Achievements or Volunteer Experience

Best format for a full-stack developer resume

Pick the reverse-chronological resume format: your latest job first, each with the title, the employer and its city, plus MM/YYYY dates for when you started and left. Engineering managers want to know what stack you work in today and how long you have used it, and this order answers both in the first 5 lines. If you are switching from another career, keep this order too, and lead your current job with the bullets closest to development work.

The 3 resume formatsWhich format works best for a full-stack developer resume?Use the reverse-chronological format unless one of the other two fits your situation better. Each card opens its full guide.

Fit your resume on 1 page while you have under 10 years in development. A senior engineer or lead with several products, migrations or teams behind them can use 2, as long as page 1 carries the current role and the stack it runs on.

Full-Stack Developer resume format cheatsheet
SettingWhat to use
Length1 page under 10 years; 2 pages for senior and lead roles
DatesMonth and year as MM/YYYY; Present marks the job you have now
Header linksGitHub or portfolio URL beside your email; LinkedIn optional
StackFront end, back end, database and cloud named in the summary and inside bullets
What to leave offA photo in most cases, plus your date of birth, family status and SSN
File typePDF exported from your editor so the text stays selectable; Word only if the employer asks

Most US and Canadian resumes carry no photo. A technical screener spends the first look on your stack and your links, so give that top space to a GitHub or portfolio URL a reviewer can open.

Full-stack developer resume summary vs. objective

If you have been paid to write production code, write a summary; if you have not, write an objective. A resume summary for this job names the stack by layer, the kind of product you build and 1 feature with a result. An objective names the role you want and the strongest thing you have already deployed.

Full-stack developer resume summary formula

Title with X years building kind of product in front end, back end and database. 1 feature you shipped across layers, with its number. Cloud platform, certification or the layer you lead on.

Example

Full-stack developer with 7 years building insurance and ticketing web apps in React, Node.js and PostgreSQL. Rebuilt the online quote flow from form to database, cutting a typical quote from 11 minutes to 4. Deploys to Azure App Service through GitHub Actions.

Don't

Passionate full-stack developer skilled in front-end and back-end technologies, looking to build scalable web applications.

Do

Full-stack developer with 4 years on a Django and React stack for a healthcare scheduling product. Built the appointment reminder service that sends 60,000 texts a week and cut no-shows by 17%. Comfortable owning a feature from the migration to the UI.

The rewrite names the stack, the product, a volume and a result a manager can ask about.

How to write full-stack developer work experience bullets with numbers

Give your current job 3 to 4 bullets and each older job 2 to 4, each starting on a verb and ending on what changed. O*NET lists modifying software to correct errors and improve performance among the core tasks, and that work is easy to measure in seconds, error rates and request counts. Follow the general rules for listing work experience on a resume, then spread your bullets across layers so no reader takes you for a front-end-only or back-end-only developer.

Numbers that prove full-stack work
LayerWhat to countExample bullet
Front endLoad time, Core Web Vitals, conversion, accessibility fixesCut the signup page's Largest Contentful Paint from 3.8 to 1.9 seconds by lazy-loading 6 third-party scripts.
APIs and servicesEndpoints, requests a day, p95 latency, error rateBuilt 12 GraphQL resolvers that serve 400K requests a day at a p95 under 180 ms.
DatabaseQuery time, table size, migrations run without downtimeAdded 5 composite indexes that took order search from 2.4 s to 90 ms on a 30M-row table.
Testing and releasesCoverage, deploys a week, rollbacks, escaped bugsRaised billing service test coverage from 41% to 78% and cut rollbacks from 6 a quarter to 1.
Cloud and costMonthly spend, uptime, services movedMoved 3 services from EC2 to containers on ECS and trimmed $4,200 a month from the AWS bill.
FeaturesUsers, adoption, revenue, support ticketsShipped saved carts across React, a Node.js API and Redis; 22% of returning shoppers used it in month 1.

In this sample, the current job gets 4 bullets that touch the UI, the database, the test suite and the team, and the earlier job keeps 2.

Work Experience

Full-Stack Developer03/2022 – Present
Brintamere Insurance | Des Moines, IA
  • Built a claims status page in React and TypeScript on a new Node.js endpoint, cutting status calls to the service desk by 38% in 6 months.
  • Moved 14 reporting queries out of the browser into indexed PostgreSQL views, bringing the agent dashboard from 6.2 to 1.4 seconds.
  • Wrote Playwright tests for 9 quote and payment flows, which let the team release twice a week instead of every 3 weeks.
  • Coached 2 junior developers through code review; each reached 20 merged pull requests in their first quarter.
Software Developer07/2019 – 02/2022
Quelloway Ticketing | Ankeny, IA
  • Wrote the REST endpoints and Vue.js seat map for a box office app used by 23 venues.
  • Lowered failed card payments from 4.1% to 1.6% with retries and clearer error states in the payment step.

Don't

Worked on both front-end and back-end features.

Do

Built the invoice export end to end: a PostgreSQL view, a Spring Boot endpoint and an Angular download screen that 1,100 accounts use each month.

Naming each layer turns a vague claim into proof of full-stack range.

Don't

Responsible for improving website performance.

Do

Brought the product page from 5.1 to 2.3 seconds by moving image resizing to a CDN and caching 3 API calls in Redis.

Full-stack developer skills, languages and frameworks

Skills holds 2 kinds of entry: 6 to 8 technical skills for your resume that cover each layer the job ad names, plus 4 to 6 tools such as React or PostgreSQL. Pick them from the ad, and drop anything you could not use on a first-week ticket. The soft skills below show up better in bullets about reviews, estimates and shipped features than as a list.

Hard skills for full-stack developers

  • JavaScript and TypeScript
  • React, Angular or Vue.js
  • Node.js and Express
  • REST and GraphQL API design
  • SQL and PostgreSQL
  • NoSQL databases such as MongoDB
  • Authentication with OAuth 2.0 and JWT
  • Unit, integration and end-to-end testing
  • CI/CD pipelines
  • Docker and cloud deployment

Soft skills engineering leads value

  • Breaking features into tickets
  • Useful code review
  • Clear technical writing
  • Working with designers and product managers
  • Calm debugging in production
  • Honest estimates

O*NET files full-stack work under Software Developers, and its technology list for that occupation flags TypeScript, React, Node.js, PostgreSQL, Docker, Git, Spring Boot and Angular as both in demand and hot, with GraphQL and Vue.js marked hot. Name each tool in Skills, then again inside the bullet where you used it, so a reader sees React next to the page you built and PostgreSQL next to the query you fixed. Write versions only where they matter to the job, such as Angular 2+ against AngularJS, or Java 17.

AWS and Azure certifications on a full-stack developer resume

Full-stack development has no license, so every credential in this section is optional. A cloud certification helps when the job ad names the platform, so list certifications on your resume under Certificates with the full name, the issuer and the month and year you passed.

Cloud certifications for full-stack developers
CredentialIssued byWhat it takes
AWS Certified Developer (Associate)Amazon Web Services1 exam of 65 questions in 130 minutes, $150; AWS recommends 1+ year building and maintaining apps on AWS. Valid 3 years. The DVA-C02 version runs through November 2026, and DVA-C03 replaces it.
AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Associate)Amazon Web Services65 questions in 130 minutes; AWS recommends at least 1 year designing cloud solutions on its services. Valid 3 years; suits developers who also design the infrastructure.
Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer AssociateMicrosoftExam AZ-204, aimed at developers with 2+ years of programming. Microsoft retired the exam and its renewal assessment in July 2026, so it can no longer be earned.

How to list a retired or expiring certification

A certification you earned stays true after its exam retires: Microsoft keeps it on your Learn transcript, though it can no longer be renewed. Keep it under Certificates with the month you earned it, and add the retirement in a few words so no reader thinks you are hiding it. Drop an AWS certification once its 3 years run out, unless you have rebooked the exam, which you can show with a scheduled date.

Sample Certificates section: a current and a retired certification

Certificates

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Associate), Amazon Web Services, 02/2026
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer Associate, Microsoft, 05/2023 (retired by Microsoft in 07/2026)

Computer science degree, bootcamp or self-taught: how to list each

The BLS says software developers usually need a bachelor's in computer and information technology or a similar subject, and some employers prefer a master's. For web developers it says the requirements run from high school to a bachelor's degree, so a degree is not the only way in. Apply the standard advice on listing education on a resume: degree or program, school, city and end date.

Early in your career, add 1 line on a capstone or a deployed project with its stack. A bootcamp goes under Education with its name, city or Online, and dates, never as a job. Self-taught? Leave Education short and let your GitHub link and your first bullets carry the proof.

Sample education entry: CS degree with a senior capstone

Education

B.S. in Computer Science05/2019
Iowa State University | Ames, IA

Senior capstone: a course scheduling web app in React and Flask, built with a team of 4.

Entry-level and career-change full-stack developer resumes

For your first developer job, an entry-level resume layout works best: a short objective, Education high on the page, then any work where code reached a real user. Treat each item like a job and give it a number.

  • Internships and co-ops: pull requests merged, tickets closed, the feature you shipped and the stack it used.
  • Freelance or client sites: a Work Experience entry with the client type, the stack and a result such as bookings or page speed.
  • Apps people actually use: active users, stars or downloads, written as a line under Key Achievements with a link in your header.
  • Nonprofit or open source work: listed under Volunteer Experience, with the project, the fix and what it changed.

Don't

Motivated bootcamp graduate seeking a full-stack developer position where I can grow my skills.

Do

Bootcamp graduate seeking a junior full-stack role, with 2 deployed apps in React, Express and MongoDB. Built a volunteer shift scheduler now used by a food bank with 140 members.

Even an objective needs evidence: something deployed, its stack and who uses it.

Changing careers from QA, IT support, data analysis or design? Stay with reverse-chronological order, and put the scripts, internal tools or front-end work you already do at the top of your current job. A career-change resume reads best when your summary names the stack you now build in. Explain the move in a cover letter, and our software engineer cover letter examples show how to tie it to a shipped project in 2 or 3 sentences.

Full-Stack Developer resume FAQ

Should a full-stack developer resume link to GitHub or a portfolio?

Yes, if the link shows working code. Put 1 URL in your header, pin 2 or 3 repositories with a short README and a live demo, and make sure the most recent commit is not years old. A profile with nothing pinned, or no commits since college, works against you.

How long should a full-stack developer resume be?

1 page for most developers with under 10 years of experience. Senior and lead developers can use 2 pages when they have several products or migrations to show, as long as the current role and its stack sit on page 1.

How many languages and frameworks should a full-stack developer list?

Usually 6 to 8 skills plus 4 to 6 tools, covering 1 front-end framework, 1 or 2 back-end languages, a database and a cloud or deployment tool. Each should appear in a bullet too. A long list of tools you used once makes the strong ones harder to find.

Can I apply as full-stack if I am stronger on the front end?

Yes, as long as your resume shows real back-end work: an endpoint you wrote, a schema you changed or a query you sped up. Lead with your strongest layer in the summary, then make sure at least 1 bullet per job proves the other side.

Do full-stack developers need a certification?

No. Your shipped work and your technical interview carry the hire. A cloud certification such as AWS Certified Developer (Associate) is worth listing when the posting names that platform, and it helps most when your job history does not show cloud work yet.

Can I keep a retired Azure certification on my resume?

Yes. Microsoft retired the Azure Developer Associate certification and its renewal assessment on July 31, 2026, but an earned certification stays on your Microsoft Learn transcript. List it under Certificates with the date you earned it and a short note that Microsoft has retired it.

How much do full-stack developers make?

The BLS publishes no separate full-stack figure. It reports May 2025 medians of $135,980 for software developers and $92,650 for web developers. Leave pay off your resume and discuss it during the interview process.
