9 Customer Success Manager Resume Examples & Guide for 2026

Customer success leaders hiring a CSM check the size of your book, how much of it renewed, and how quickly new customers went live. The examples and advice on this page show how to put figures on retention, adoption and expansion, and how to name the platforms your playbooks ran in.

Customer Success Manager resume example

Customer success is judged on whether customers adopt, stay and grow, and your resume needs proof of each: the segment you served, the revenue you looked after, and what happened to it at renewal. Onboarding plans and account reviews are hard to show on a page as they are, so turn them into a few figures: accounts owned, the share of revenue that renewed and how quickly new customers went live, each tied to the platform you ran it in.

How to Write a Customer Success Manager Resume - Key Takeaways

  • List jobs newest first (reverse-chronological) on 1 page, and move to 2 only with 10+ years or a team you led.
  • Open with a 2- to 3-line summary that names your segment, your book in accounts and ARR, and 1 retention or adoption result.
  • Say which retention figure you mean (gross, net or logo) and the period it covers, every time you quote one.
  • Write that you owned renewals only when the renewal number was yours; otherwise say you partnered with the account executive.
  • List CS platforms and CRMs by their exact names, such as Gainsight, ChurnZero, Salesforce or HubSpot, and use each one in a bullet.
  • Test the final PDF in an ATS resume checker so job titles, dates and platform names parse cleanly.

What hiring managers look for in a customer success manager resume

A head of customer success screens for 3 things: the kind of customer you served, the size of the book you carried, and whether those accounts stayed and grew. Segment matters as much as volume. A book of 40 SMB accounts on 1-year contracts is a different job from 8 enterprise accounts with a steering committee each, so say which one you did in your first bullet.

Customer success also means different things at different companies. In some teams the CSM carries the renewal number; in others an account executive does, and the CSM owns onboarding, adoption and health. Make that scope plain in your bullets, and arrange the page in these sections:

  • Name, headline (Customer Success Manager, Enterprise SaaS) and contact details
  • A 2- to 3-line summary directly below the headline (the designs print it with no heading)
  • Work Experience, starting with your current role
  • Skills, with your CS platform, CRM and support tools
  • Certificates
  • Education
  • If space allows: Languages, Interests, and Key Achievements, with Volunteer Experience in their place when it is stronger

Best format for a customer success manager resume

Pick the reverse-chronological resume format and list your current role first, giving each job its title, company, location and start and end month (MM/YYYY). Customer success careers tend to climb from associate or support roles to CSM, senior CSM and team lead, and newest-first order puts that climb in front of the reader. A combination layout, with skills above your history, helps only a career changer whose last title has nothing to do with customers.

The 3 resume formatsWhich format works best for a customer success manager resume?Use the reverse-chronological format unless one of the other two fits your situation better. Each card opens its full guide.

Most CSMs fit on 1 page. Use 2 if you have 10+ years or led a team of CSMs, and keep your current and previous roles on page 1. A director of customer success resume usually needs the second page for team size, budget and retention across the full customer base.

Customer Success Manager resume format cheatsheet
SettingWhat to use
Length1 page; 2 with 10+ years or a CSM team you managed
DatesMM/YYYY for every role, and Present for the current one
Job title lineTitle plus segment: Customer Success Manager, Mid-Market
First bullet of each jobAccounts, segment and ARR you were responsible for
Type1 clean sans serif font, 10.5 to 12 pt for bullets
Photo and private dataA photo is uncommon in US and Canadian applications; skip your age, family status and SSN
FilePDF, or a .docx file when the applicant portal asks for one

Most US and Canadian resumes carry no photo. If the company takes applications through an applicant tracking system, a plain layout lets the parser read your titles and dates in the right order.

Customer success manager resume summary vs. objective

Use a summary if you have held a customer success title, or a support, onboarding or account role with a book of customers. Use an objective only when you are moving in from outside, and fill it with the closest evidence you have. The account manager summary and objective examples show the same idea for a neighboring role: lead with the book and a retention result, not with adjectives.

Customer success manager resume summary formula

Title with X years in product type, serving segment. Own number accounts worth ARR and your best retention, adoption or expansion figure, working in CS platform.

Example

Customer success manager with 7 years in B2B scheduling software, serving mid-market clinic groups. Own 41 accounts worth $3.8M in ARR and raised gross revenue retention from 88% to 95% in 2 years, working in Gainsight.

Don't

Customer-obsessed CSM passionate about building relationships and driving value for clients.

Do

Customer success manager with 4 years in HR software, covering 60 small-business accounts. Kept logo churn under 6% in 2025 and wrote a 30-day onboarding playbook now used by 5 CSMs.

The rewrite swaps feelings for a segment, a book size and 2 results a hiring manager can ask about.

How to write customer success bullets with retention and adoption numbers

Your current role gets 3 to 4 bullets; give each earlier role 2 to 4, each starting on an action verb and ending on a figure. Your CS platform and CRM already hold most of these numbers, so pull them before you write. Describe achievements on your resume, such as a renewal saved or an onboarding cut, rather than the tasks in your job description.

Numbers that prove customer success work
AreaWhat to countExample bullet
RetentionGross or net revenue retention, logo churn, the periodKept net revenue retention at 112% across a $2.1M book in FY2025.
RenewalsContracts due, renewed, multi-year termsRenewed 27 of 29 contracts due in 2025, 6 of them on 2-year terms.
ExpansionUpsell ARR, seats or modules addedAdded 340 seats across 8 accounts after a pilot of the reporting module.
OnboardingDays to go-live, time to first valueBrought median time to first report from 21 to 9 days for new accounts.
AdoptionActive users against licensed seats, features in useLifted weekly active users from 54% to 76% of licensed seats in 3 enterprise accounts.
Risk and savesRed-health accounts, saves, ARR protectedRan save plans on 11 red-health accounts and kept 8, protecting $620K in ARR.
SentimentNPS, CSAT, response ratesRaised account NPS from 18 to 41 after starting quarterly roadmap calls.

Below, one CSM's entry with those figures in place. The first bullet sets the scope, the next 3 show what changed, and the earlier onboarding job keeps 2 lines.

Lumacrest Payroll | Tempe, AZ

Don't

Managed a portfolio of customer accounts.

Do

Managed 52 SMB accounts worth $1.3M in ARR and renewed 94% of contract value in FY2025.

A book size, a dollar figure and a renewal rate turn a duty into a result.

Don't

Conducted QBRs with key customers.

Do

Ran quarterly business reviews for 15 top accounts, each ending with 3 agreed goals; 12 of those accounts renewed early.

Renewals you owned vs. renewals you supported

If the renewal number sat on your quota, write that you owned or closed it. If an account executive or renewals manager carried it, write that you partnered on it and quote the result you drove, such as adoption before the renewal date or a save plan. A hiring manager will ask in the interview who signed the paperwork, and the honest version still reads as a strong bullet.

Customer success skills and platforms for your resume

Pick 6 to 8 hard skills for your resume from the posting, limited to ones a bullet of yours backs up. Most of the work rests on customer service skills as well, so let your saves, escalations and reviews show them rather than listing them alone.

Hard skills for customer success managers

  • Customer onboarding
  • Account health scoring
  • Renewal management
  • Churn risk analysis
  • Expansion and upsell
  • Executive business reviews
  • Success planning
  • Product adoption analysis
  • Customer lifecycle mapping
  • Playbook design

Soft skills customer success leaders value

  • Relationships with executive sponsors
  • Clear written follow-up
  • Commercial negotiation
  • Prioritizing a large book
  • Advocating for customers with product teams
  • Composure in escalations

Put your platforms with your skills, then name each one again in a bullet that shows what you did in it. Write the CS platform the posting names, such as Gainsight, ChurnZero, Totango, Vitally or Planhat, and the support and analytics tools beside it, such as Zendesk, Intercom, Pendo or Looker, only where you have used them.

A technical CSM adds the integration side: APIs and webhooks, single sign-on setup, SQL for usage queries, and the Jira tickets you filed or triaged with engineering. Name the integrations by type and count, such as 12 HRIS connections configured in a quarter.

Customer success certifications: Gainsight, Salesforce and HubSpot

No license is needed to work in customer success, so certificates are optional proof of platform skill. Put certifications on your resume in the Certificates section with the issuer and the month and year earned, and list the platform credential the posting names first. Write each name as it read when you earned it.

Gainsight Certified End UserGainsightComplete the Gainsight End User learning path, then pass a 32-question, 45-minute exam with a score of 80%. Gainsight lists the exam at $99 and says it covers Cockpit, Timeline and 360.

  • Inbound Sales, HubSpot Academy, 09/2021
  • Customer Success Executive Education Certificate, University of San Francisco, Part 1 in progress since 09/2026

How to list education on a customer success resume

Customer success has no required degree path. Business, marketing and communications are common majors, and CSMs also arrive from teaching, hospitality or support with degrees in other fields. Listing education on a resume works the same here as for any job: the degree, then the school and its location, then the month and year you finished. Move Education below Work Experience once you hold a full-time customer role.

Add a GPA only within 2 to 3 years of graduating and only at 3.5 or above. A capstone or internship earns a line when it involved real customers, such as a churn analysis for a software company or a semester answering support tickets.

Customer success associate and career-change resumes

Associate and junior CSM roles often hire from support, onboarding, sales development and other customer-facing jobs. With no customer success title yet, follow an entry-level resume approach: a short objective, then every role that shows you kept customers on track, with the numbers that job tracked.

  • Customer support: tickets a day, CSAT, first-response time and the help-desk tool you worked in.
  • Onboarding or implementation: customers taken live, days to go-live, trainings delivered.
  • Hospitality, events or retail management: repeat clients, event bookings, complaints resolved and staff trained.
  • Teaching or training: learners per session, completion rates, materials you wrote.
  • Volunteer roles: members or donors retained, listed under Volunteer Experience.

Don't

Motivated professional looking to break into customer success at a fast-growing SaaS company.

Do

Support specialist moving into customer success, with 2 years resolving about 45 tickets a day in Zendesk at a 96% CSAT. Trained 3 new hires on product setup; seeking an associate CSM role.

The second version names the tool, the volume, the quality score and the role you want.

Coming from a restaurant, hotel, classroom or store, keep reverse-chronological order and make the first 2 bullets of your latest job the most customer-success-like work: repeat bookings from regulars, training new staff, or a complaint process you fixed. A career-change resume then adds a free certificate, such as HubSpot Academy's Inbound Sales, to show you have learned the software side. Explain the move in your cover letter, using the structure in these customer service cover letter examples, and keep the resume itself for evidence.

Customer Success Manager resume FAQ

What is the difference between a customer success manager resume and an account manager resume?

The focus. An account manager resume leads with revenue: renewals closed, upsells sold and quota hit. A customer success manager resume leads with adoption and health: onboarding time, active users, health scores and churn saved, with renewal figures added where you owned or influenced them.

Should I list NRR or GRR on a customer success resume?

List both if you have them, each with its period. Gross revenue retention shows how much of your book you kept, and net revenue retention adds expansion on top. If you can quote only one, use the figure the job ad or the company's own reports use.

How do I show renewals on my resume if I did not carry a quota?

Say you partnered on them and quote what you changed before the renewal date. For example, write that you raised seat usage in at-risk accounts ahead of renewal and name how many of those accounts renewed. Keep owned and closed for renewals that sat on your own number.

Which customer success platforms should I put on my resume?

Only the ones you have worked in, by exact product name, starting with any the job ad mentions. A CS platform such as Gainsight or ChurnZero, a CRM such as Salesforce or HubSpot, and a support tool such as Zendesk usually cover what a hiring manager scans for.

How long should a customer success manager resume be?

Use 1 page for most CSMs. Go to 2 pages with 10+ years in customer-facing roles or once you have managed other CSMs, and keep your book of business, retention figures and current platform on the first page.

Can I move from customer support into customer success?

Yes. Rewrite your support bullets around accounts rather than tickets: the customers you helped onboard, the escalations you resolved for large accounts, and any renewals or expansions your fixes protected.

Do customer success managers need a certification?

No. No license or certificate is required for the job. A platform credential, such as Gainsight Certified End User or Salesforce Certified Platform Administrator, helps when the posting names that platform, and a free HubSpot Academy certificate is a quick way for a career changer to show software knowledge.
