18 Construction Project Manager Resume Examples & Guide for 2026

General contractors and owners read a construction project manager resume for the size of the jobs you ran, the contracts behind them and how they finished. Use these examples and the guide below to put dollar values, schedules and safety records on every job, and to list PMP, CCM and OSHA 30 where a recruiter expects them.

Construction Project Manager resume example

Owners and general contractors hire a construction project manager to bring a building in on budget and on schedule, and your resume has to show you have done it before. That means the dollar value of the jobs you ran, how cost and schedule held up, how you handled change orders and which trades you coordinated. Scale makes this difficult: a project that ran for years still has to be told in a few bullets.

How to Write a Construction Project Manager Resume - Key Takeaways

  • Use the reverse-chronological format on 1 page, or 2 once you have 10+ years and a long list of finished projects.
  • Open with a 2- to 3-line summary naming your project types, your contract range, the delivery method and your best cost or schedule result.
  • Back each bullet with a construction number: buyout savings, change orders, submittal or RFI turnaround, safety hours or days to closeout.
  • List Procore, Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project with your skills, and show each one at work inside a bullet.
  • Show PMP, CCM and LEED AP under Certificates with their issuers, and write OSHA 30 as a completed course, never as a certification.
  • Leave out your birth date and other personal details, then test the file with an ATS resume checker before you apply.

What hiring managers look for in a construction project manager resume

A general contractor's operations director, or an owner hiring a project lead, reads your resume for 3 things: the scale of work you have run, how you controlled cost and schedule, and how safe your sites were. The BLS lists preparing cost estimates, budgets and work timetables, selecting and scheduling subcontractors, and reporting progress and budget matters to the firm and its clients as core duties. O*NET adds reviewing projects for building and safety code compliance, running quality control programs and negotiating contracts with subcontractors and suppliers.

Lay the page out in sections a hiring manager and an applicant tracking system both recognize:

  • Name, contact details and a headline such as Construction Project Manager, PMP
  • A summary of 2 or 3 lines right below the header, printed without a heading
  • Work Experience, newest employer first, with the projects you ran under each job
  • Skills, with Procore, Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project in the same list
  • Certificates: a state contractor license first if you hold one, then PMP, CCM, LEED AP or OSHA 30
  • Education
  • Optional: Languages if you run crews or meetings in a second language, plus either Key Achievements or Volunteer Experience

Best format for a construction project manager resume

Choose the reverse-chronological resume format: your current employer on top, and every job with its title, company, city and MM/YYYY dates. Construction careers climb in steps a reader knows well, from project engineer or assistant project manager to project manager, senior project manager and project executive, and this order makes each step easy to spot. Superintendents and foremen moving into the office keep this order too, because their field years are the strongest part of the story.

The 3 resume formatsWhich format works best for a construction project manager resume?Use the reverse-chronological format unless one of the other two fits your situation better. Each card opens its full guide.

With under 10 years in project roles, 1 page holds everything a hiring manager needs. A 2-page resume fits a senior project manager or a construction manager with a long record of finished buildings, as long as page 1 carries your current job and your largest project.

Construction Project Manager resume format cheatsheet
SettingWhat to use
Length1 page under 10 years; 2 for a long list of finished projects
DatesMM/YYYY for each job; project completion years go inside the bullets
Job title lineYour employer's exact title: Assistant Project Manager, Project Manager II, Senior Project Manager
Project listUp to 4 major projects per job, each with its value and the year it finished
TypefaceOne clean font such as Arial, Calibri or Georgia, with bullets at 10 to 12 pt
Photo and personal detailsUsually no photo in the US and Canada; no birth date, marital status or Social Security number
File typePDF, or a Word file when a contractor's hiring portal asks for one

Most US and Canadian resumes carry no photo. Your finished buildings are the pictures that count, so save jobsite photos and a short project list for the interview.

Construction project manager resume summary vs. objective

Use a resume summary once you have run projects as a project manager or assistant project manager: 2 to 3 lines with your years, your project types and contract range, the delivery method and 1 result. Use a resume objective if you are moving into project management from the field, from design or from another industry: name the role you want and the project work you already do. Draft these lines last, once your project bullets tell you which result is worth repeating at the top.

Construction project manager resume summary formula

Title, credentials, with X years at a general contractor or owner's side on project types. Your largest finished project, with its value and delivery method. 1 cost, schedule or safety result, with a number.

Example

Construction Project Manager, PMP and LEED AP BD+C, with 10 years at a general contractor on senior living and K-12 work. Delivered a $27.4M, 5-story senior living community under design-build. Bought out 31 trade packages $612K under the GMP budget.

Don't

Dedicated project manager with extensive commercial construction experience and strong leadership skills.

Do

Owner's representative for a regional apartment developer, managing 4 multifamily projects of $6M to $18M at once in Primavera P6. Reached substantial completion by the contract date on 7 of 8 projects since 2023. PMP since 2024.

The rewrite names the side of the contract, the market, the project range, the software and a schedule record a reference can confirm.

How to write construction project manager work experience bullets with numbers

Give your current job 3 to 4 bullets and each older job 1 to 4, every one starting with a verb. Construction work comes with its own scoreboard, from contract value and buyout to change orders, RFIs, safety hours and punch lists, so nearly every bullet can carry a number. When you list work experience on a resume, lead with the project that best matches the job ad, even if it is not the most recent one.

Numbers that prove construction project work
AreaWhat to countExample bullet
Preconstruction and buyoutTrade packages, savings against the estimate, value engineeringValue-engineered the mechanical package on a $12M fire station and saved $240K without changing the design intent.
ScheduleWeeks gained, milestones, substantial completion datePulled the dry-in date forward 3 weeks on a $15M distribution center by resequencing roofing and slab work.
Change ordersCount, dollar value, share of contract valuePriced and negotiated 41 change orders worth $760K, holding owner changes to 4% of contract value.
Submittals and RFIsRegister size, approval timing, open itemsSet up a 1,050-item submittal register in Procore at buyout and had 96% approved before the trades needed them.
Trades and phasingTrades scheduled, phases, occupied areasScheduled 27 trades through a 3-phase occupied renovation of a 400-bed dormitory with no student move-out delays.
SafetyWork hours, recordable incident rate, lost-time incidentsHeld the recordable incident rate at 0.8 over 210,000 work hours on a hospital expansion.
CloseoutPunch items, retainage, days to final paymentCollected $1.1M in retainage within 45 days of completion on 3 school projects.

Here is one project manager's entry with those numbers in place. The first bullet sets the scale, and the older job gets fewer lines.

Construction project management skills and software for your resume

Pick 6 to 8 hard skills for your resume that the posting asks for and your bullets already prove. Scheduling, cost control and subcontractor management belong on nearly every construction project manager resume; estimating, BIM coordination or design-build preconstruction only where you have done them.

Hard skills for construction project managers

  • CPM scheduling
  • Cost control and forecasting
  • Buyout and subcontract management
  • Change order management
  • RFI and submittal management
  • Reading drawings and specifications
  • Construction estimating
  • Jobsite safety and OSHA standards
  • Quality control and inspections
  • Closeout and punch lists

Soft skills general contractors value

  • Negotiation with owners and trades
  • Clear written communication
  • Quick decisions on site
  • Conflict resolution
  • Running productive meetings
  • Accountability for outcomes

Put your software in the same Skills list, then name each program again in a bullet that shows what you did in it. O*NET flags Procore, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Outlook as both in-demand and hot technology for construction managers, and lists Oracle Primavera, Autodesk Revit, Autodesk AutoCAD and Trimble SketchUp Pro among its hot technologies. Write each name the way the job ad does: if it asks for Primavera P6, a resume that only says scheduling software can be passed over.

Construction project manager certifications: PMP, CCM, LEED AP and OSHA 30

Put certifications on your resume under Certificates, each with its issuer and the month and year you earned it. According to the BLS, some states require construction managers to be licensed, and professional certification, although not required, demonstrates a particular level of knowledge and experience. A contractor's license held for your firm goes first; the PMP shows project discipline, the CCM shows construction management experience as the person in charge, and LEED AP fits green building work.

Construction credentials and what each one takes
CredentialIssued byWhat it takes
PMP (Project Management Professional)Project Management Institute (PMI)A 180-question exam, open after 35 hours of training (an active CAPM also counts) and 3 years leading projects with a bachelor's degree, 4 with an associate's or trade school diploma, or 5 with a high school diploma. Renewal takes 60 PDUs every 3 years.
CCM (Certified Construction Manager)Construction Manager Certification Institute (CMCI)48 non-overlapping months as responsible-in-charge of construction management services, a qualifying degree or extra experience in its place, 2 references and a 175-question exam (150 scored). Recertify every 3 years.
OSHA 30-Hour ConstructionOSHA Outreach Training ProgramA 30-hour safety course meant for supervisors and workers with safety duties, ending in a course completion card. OSHA calls the program voluntary and says it is not a certification.
LEED AP BD+C (Building Design + Construction)U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC)A current LEED Green Associate credential, or both exams taken together, and the specialty exam; then 30 continuing education hours within 2 years.
State contractor licenseYour state's licensing board (in California, the Contractors State License Board)Rules vary by state. California asks for 4 years of experience in the license class as a fully qualified worker, foreman, supervisor, contractor or owner-builder, with up to 3 years of credit for education, apprenticeship or training, plus an exam.

Where an OSHA 30 card and a CCM in progress go

List the OSHA card under Certificates by its course name, OSHA 30-Hour Construction, with the month you completed it, and never call yourself OSHA certified. For a CCM you are still working toward, add the month your exam is scheduled and keep CCM off your headline until CMCI awards it. A PMP, CCM or license you hold belongs in the headline as well.

Sample Certificates section: PMP, LEED AP and a CCM in progress

Certificates

  • Project Management Professional (PMP), Project Management Institute, 04/2021
  • LEED AP Building Design + Construction (BD+C), U.S. Green Building Council, 09/2022
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction, OSHA Outreach Training Program, 01/2024
  • Certified Construction Manager (CCM), CMCI, exam scheduled 02/2027

Construction management degrees for project managers

Construction managers typically need a bachelor's degree in construction, business, engineering or a related field, the BLS says, and those programs often cover project control and management, construction methods and materials, and cost estimation. An associate's degree in construction management or construction technology, combined with work experience, may be typical for managers who run small projects. CMCI counts degrees from programs accredited by ACCE, ABET or NAAB toward the CCM, so a degree from one of those programs is worth naming in full.

For the rest, follow the standard rules for how to list education on a resume: degree, school, city and graduation month. Add internships or a capstone only in your first 2 to 3 years after school; after that, your projects carry the weight and Education sits under Work Experience.

Education

B.S. in Construction Management05/2016
University of Florida | Gainesville, FL

M.E. Rinker, Sr. School of Construction Management. 2 summer internships with a general contractor.

Moving up to construction project manager: assistant, entry-level and career-change resumes

New construction managers typically work under an experienced manager for up to 1 year, according to the BLS, so a first resume has to show you can carry part of a project from day 1. With no project management job yet, use an entry-level resume layout: a short objective, Education near the top, then every piece of project work you have done, with numbers. A project engineer moving up keeps Work Experience first and pulls the cost and schedule figures out of the support work.

  • Internships or co-ops with a contractor: the project and its value, plus the submittals, RFIs or takeoffs you handled.
  • Project engineer or field engineer work: RFI and submittal counts, layout, inspections and as-built drawings.
  • Trade or foreman experience: crew size, the scopes you ran, inspections passed and the safety record on your crew.
  • Coursework, under Education: only an estimate or a schedule you built in real software, such as a full takeoff or a P6 schedule for a studio project.

Don't

Hardworking construction professional looking to move into project management and grow my career.

Do

Project engineer with 3 years on 2 hospital additions, seeking an assistant project manager role. Processed 450 RFIs and 900 submittals in Procore and completed OSHA 30 in 2025.

Even an objective needs proof: the project type, the volume of paperwork you carried and a credential.

Moving up from construction superintendent or foreman, or across from architecture or engineering, keep the reverse-chronological order and open with an objective or summary that names the project management work you already do: schedules, budgets, subcontractor coordination. A career-change resume works when the first 3 bullets under your current job carry that cost and schedule work. Give the reason for the move in a cover letter that opens on a project you finished, and start from these construction cover letter examples.

Construction Project Manager resume FAQ

Do I need a license to work as a construction project manager?

Not as a rule. The BLS says some states require construction managers to be licensed. A contractor's license is usually held by the firm's qualifying person; in California, the Contractors State License Board asks for 4 years of experience in the license class as a fully qualified worker, foreman or supervisor. Check your state board before you apply.

Is a PMP or a CCM better for a construction project manager?

The CCM is the construction-specific one, but you need 48 months as responsible-in-charge of construction management services before CMCI will let you sit for it. The PMP needs 3 years leading projects with a bachelor's degree, so it often comes first. List both under Certificates once you hold them.

Should I list LEED AP on a construction project manager resume?

Yes, if you hold it and the employer builds certified projects. Write the specialty, such as LEED AP Building Design + Construction (BD+C), under Certificates with its month, and name a LEED project you delivered in a bullet. USGBC requires 30 continuing education hours within 2 years, so keep it current.

How long should a construction project manager resume be?

1 page with under 10 years in project roles. A senior project manager with a long record of finished buildings can use 2 pages, as long as page 1 holds the current job and the largest project. Cut small or repeat projects before you cut numbers.

What construction software should I list on my resume?

List the programs the posting names that you have really used, by their exact names: Procore, Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project for most general contractor roles, plus Revit or AutoCAD where you review models or drawings. Back each one with a bullet about the work you did in it.

How do I list several projects under one employer?

Keep 1 Work Experience entry per employer and give each major project its own bullet with its value, type and result. If you ran many small jobs, group them in 1 bullet, such as 9 tenant improvement projects closed in 2025, and keep your largest project first.

Can I list contract values if my employer keeps them confidential?

Yes, as a range or a rounded figure. Write a $20M to $30M medical office building instead of the exact contract sum, and leave out the owner's name if it is not public. Publicly bid jobs are on record, so their figures are usually fine to give.

How do I move from superintendent or project engineer to project manager?

Show the cost and schedule work you already own. Superintendents can point to lookahead schedules, crew sizes and safety records; project engineers to RFI and submittal counts, change order pricing and buyout support. Put those bullets first under your current job and apply for assistant project manager or project manager roles.

How much do construction project managers make?

The BLS reports that the median annual wage for construction managers, the occupation O*NET files construction project managers under, was $114,990 in May 2025. Your offer will depend on your state, your market and the size of the projects you run. Leave pay off your resume and discuss it during the interview or on the application form.
